This year, our two day event will be held at Bears Grass Dairy, located 15 minutes southeast of Eau Claire.
Chippewa Valley Farm-City Day is an educational, interactive event on a working farm. We are continuing with an additional day (Friday, September 8th, 2017) for students in the Chippewa Valley to attend. Chippewa Valley Farm-City Day event is aimed to educate our community on where and how our food is produced, showing how agriculture has evolved and progressed over the last 50 years. Along with guided tours of the dairy farm, the students will see displays and demonstrations on milking cows, growing crops, farm economics, dairy nutrition, as well as other agriculture topics. This experience is geared towards third and fourth graders since they study Wisconsin agriculture in the classroom. By visiting a real farm, we hope the students will get a better idea of what farm life is really like and learn to appreciate the many facets of Wisconsin agriculture.
Please consider accepting our invitation to visit Bears Grass Dairy on Friday, September 8th. School tours will begin at 9:30 AM and will conclude by 2:00 PM. Tour guides will meet each group and be with them all day. A covered seating area will be available for students to bring a sack lunch to enjoy at the farm with beverages and dairy snacks supplied by the Farm-City Day Committee. This will be a “rain or shine” event. Bathrooms and hand wash stations will be available on site. If you are interested in bringing your students to this educational event or if you have any other questions, please contact Mark Hagedorn, Eau Claire County UW-Extension Agriculture agent at 715-839- 4712 or e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org, preference will be given to those who reply prior to August 1, 2017.
